Meet the hosts

Dr. Abigail Carpenter

Dr. Abigail Carpenter received her B.S. from Michigan State University, her M.S. from the University of Minnesota, and her Ph.D. from Kansas State University. Her first position was at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus, where she held teaching, research, and service positions, focusing on dairy nutrition management in her research and outreach activities. In 2019, she moved back to the U.S. for an industry position as a dairy nutritionist at CSA Animal Nutrition in Dayton, OH. She returned to academia in 2021, accepting a position as Assistant Teaching Professor in dairy management at Iowa State University. She officially moved to her current appointment with ISU in July 2022, where she has an expanded role as the state dairy extension specialist.

Dr. Barry Bradford

Dr. Barry Bradford completed dual B.S. degrees at Iowa State University and a doctorate in Animal Nutrition at Michigan State University. He then served on the faculty at Kansas State University from 2006 to 2019, and in 2020, he returned to Michigan State as the Clint Meadows Chair in Dairy Management. Bradford’s research group has largely contributed with studies on dietary utilization of byproducts in lactation diets, the impacts of post-calving inflammation, and the roles of nutrients as signals. In his current role, Dr. Bradford works directly with dairy producers to apply both research and herd monitoring data to improve decision-making on dairy farms.

Dr. Mark Thomas

Dr. Mark Thomas is a seasoned professional with a proven track record in the dairy industry. A graduate of Cornell University with a background in Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Thomas brings a wealth of expertise to the table. His skills span across Animal Husbandry, Science, Agriculture, and Dairy, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of the field. As a highly skilled entrepreneur, Dr. Thomas holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and boasts board certification (ABVP). His dedicated focus revolves around Dairy Production Medicine and Research, making him a standout figure in the industry.

Meet the founder

Dr. Marcio Goncalves

Dr. Marcio Goncalves earned his veterinary degree from UFRGS, a top university in Brazil, and his PhD in applied swine nutrition from Kansas State University and worked as Global Nutritionist for one of the major swine genetic companies where he led nutrient requirement updates, diet formulation & feeding program for nucleus farms, development of nutritional economic models, and reviewing diets from over 100 customers. Currently, he is the founder of Wisenetix, the largest network of podcasts in the agriculture industry.

He has over 15 years of experience in swine production with exposure to over 20 countries and 120 research studies in pig nutrition/production and his life purpose is to create a positive impact in the world through knowledge dissemination in the global ag industry.
